Today is a shit day
I can’t write let alone think
Pay day is two weeks away
And my heart doesn’t want home cooked lunches anymore
My anxiety has trapped me in an unfamiliar place where not even a cockroach would breed
And then it’s just me and these persistent thoughts
Of how much you don’t love me
the sky was so bright and complete it filled all the cracks between the branches and your fingers like a concrete but stronger and more permanent in the way the oak trees are permanent and it would have been perfect but i didn’t want bright i wanted dull and unsure and obscure.
the duck stood,
confused, on the ice,
complaining in circle steps-
it wasn’t quite
where it should be.
Cockroaches are insects of the order Blattaria or Blattodea
The name cockroach comes from the Spanish word cucaracha, “chafer”, “beetle”, from cuca, “kind of caterpillar.”
The English form cockroach is a folk etymology reanalysis of the Spanish word into meaningful native parts, although cock referred to a rooster and a roach is a type of fish.
cockroach
by Charles Bukowski
the cockroach crouched
against the tile
while I was pissing and as
I turned my head
he hauled his butt
into a crack.
I got the can and sprayed
and sprayed and sprayed
and finally the roach came out
and gave me a very dirty look.
then he fell down into
the bathtub and I watched
him dying
with a subtle pleasure
because I paid rent
and he didn’t.
I picked him up with
some greenblue toilet
paper and flushed him
away. that’s all there
was to that, except
around Hollywood and
Western we have to
keep doing it.
they say some day that
tribe is going to
inherit the earth
but we’re going to
make them wait a
few months.
